This gel then bleaches your teeth gradually, every time you wear the trays. Sometimes they will want to monitor this in the beginning to see if any changes need to be made to your tray, but most of the time, after the initial procedure, you will be able to do the rest yourself.
For example, sometimes the dentist will give you a custom-fit tray filled with the special gel so you can insert it yourself. You may wear it throughout the day, depending on whether you can do this or not, or else you may have to put it in at night so the whitening can work throughout the day.
In some other procedures, this may involve strips instead. Sometimes a dentist will also recommend that you use special toothpaste. The main approach involves taking off stains.
Teeth Bleaching Approaches
This includes both the in-office procedure and the procedure that you take at home with the tray. One example involves using bleach to change the color your teeth currently have to the shade that you want. These approaches can change your teeth up to 6 or 7 shades brighter than what it’s at now. The most common ingredient to use for this is carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. The concentration for this active ingredient can be as high as 20% or higher.
Often, the mouthpiece you use for this has to be custom made. This can sometimes cost as much as hundreds of dollars due to the fact that the piece has to be molded to fit in your mouth specifically. The material will be heated up so that when you bite down, a perfect impression is made. This is key in order to make sure that you don’t feel uncomfortable later on. This is because you are basically wearing a perfect mold of your teeth. This is the important part of the procedure. The other parts can often be done at home for follow up.
Over-the-Counter Approaches
You can also get several different over the teeth whitening techniques. You will either “boil and bite” into a plastic tray to get an impression. However, there are downsides to this approach. For example, you just aren’t going to get the same level of precision that you get with other molds that the dentist can use for you if you go to the dentist’s in person.
